Our Story
Grove & Barrel Provisions was founded by Josep Juncosa, whose decades of leadership experience in hospitality and food & beverage operations helped shape the vision behind the brand. Throughout his career with widely acclaimed luxury brands, Josep developed a deep passion for creating environments rooted in service, quality, and genuine human connection.
The concept for Grove & Barrel was born from a desire to bring together premium culinary products and approachable, welcoming hospitality experiences. Inspired by Mediterranean culture and traditions of mindful, healthier living, we help customers design, discover simple, high-quality ingredients that elevate both everyday cooking and special gatherings around the table.
Olive Oil and Wellness
Olive oil is healthy because it is rich in heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory compounds that support cardiovascular, brain, and overall wellness.
Monounsaturated Fats
Olive oil is predominantly composed of oleic acid, a monounsaturated fat that makes up about 71% of its content. These fats help reduce LDL (bad cholesterol) while maintaining or increasing HDL (good cholesterol), which lowers the risk of heart disease and stroke. Monounsaturated fats are also stable under heat, making extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) a safe choice for cooking.
Antioxidants and Polyphenols
Extra virgin olive oil contains powerful antioxidants, including polyphenols and vitamins E and K. These compounds protect cells from oxidative stress, reduce inflammation, and prevent the oxidation of cholesterol, which is a key factor in atherosclerosis. Antioxidants also support brain health and may reduce the risk of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s.
Anti-Inflammatory Properties
Olive oil contains bioactive compounds such as oleocanthal, which act similarly to natural anti-inflammatory drugs. Chronic inflammation is a major contributor to conditions like heart disease, arthritis, and certain cancers. Regular consumption of olive oil can help lower systemic inflammation, supporting long-term health.
Additional Health Benefits
- Blood Pressure and Vascular Health: Olive oil improves endothelial function, increases nitric oxide availability, and may help lower blood pressure.
- Metabolic Support: It enhances insulin sensitivity and helps regulate blood sugar, which is beneficial for type 2 diabetes management.
- Digestive and Gut Health: Olive oil promotes healthy digestion and positively influences the gut microbiome.
- Weight Management: Despite being calorie-dense, its healthy fats promote satiety, helping prevent overeating.
Best Type and Usage
The healthiest form is extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), which is minimally processed and retains the highest levels of antioxidants and polyphenols. Daily intake of 1–4 tablespoons is generally recommended, depending on individual caloric needs and dietary context.
Using EVOO in salads, drizzling it over cooked vegetables, or incorporating it into light sautéing helps preserve its nutritional benefits while enhancing flavor.
